Windows
You will need one of the following:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater with the latest Microsoft Java Virtual Machine.
- You can get or upgrade Internet Explorer at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.asp.
- As of July 2002, Microsoft is no longer making their Java VM available as a seperate download. You either need to use Windows Update or, if you are using Windows 98, 98SE, Me, NT 4, or XP, you can download Microsoft's Java VM from here.
One more option is to download download the Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from Sun's website. When installing, select the option to have the JRE be the default Java VM for Internet Explorer.- Netscape 6.2.3 or later or Mozilla 1.0 or later with Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.4.0 or later
- You can get or upgrade Netscape 6 at http://www.netscape.com/download/.
- You can get or upgrade Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org/releases/.
- You can get or upgrade the Sun Java Runtime Environment at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.htm. You will need the "JRE" for Windows.
- Netscape Communicator 4.79 or later with Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.4.0 or later (Communicator must be installed before Java to ensure the Java Plug-In is installed correctly).
- You can get or upgrade Netscape Communicator at http://wp.netscape.com/download/
- You can get or upgrade the Sun Java Runtime Environment at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/download.htm. You will need the "JRE" for Windows.
Mac OS X
The Earthquake activities work with the latest version of Mac OS X with the latest Java Updates. Please use the "Software Updates" feature that is part of the "System Preferences" to upgrade to the latest version of OS X (10.1.3 at the time of writing) and the latest Java update (update the OS first before doing the Java update).
You will also need one of the following browsers (Note: you need the OS X versions of these browsers, not the Mac OS Classic versions):
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.14 or greater
- Internet Explorer comes with Mac OS X, but the version that comes with Mac OS X needs to be upgraded. You can upgrade Internet Explorer using the "Software Updates" feature in the "System Preferences". Also, make sure Java is enabled in Internet Explorer's preferences.
- Netscape 6.2.3 or later or Mozilla 1.0 or later
- You can get or upgrade Netscape 6 at http://www.netscape.com/download/.
- You can get or upgrade Mozilla at http://www.mozilla.org/releases/.
Mac OS Classic (8 or 9)
You will need MRJ 2.2.5. You can get MRJ 2.2.5 at http://developer.apple.com/java/download.html.
You will also need one of the following browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 for MacOS 8.1 to 9.x
- You can get or upgrade Internet Explorer for Mac OS Classic at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/download/default.asp#IE.
For all of the above browsers, you will also need the Flash Plug-In.
